Keyword ranks dropped

Recently, my 2 money keywords dropped from 6th and 8th on first page of google to 85th and 91st respectively.

I have done the seo and made baclkinks for a couple of month to get the top page of the google. Those 2 keywords stayed on the 1st page for a week, then suddenly dropped as I mentioned above.

Penalty? I do not have low quality backlinks accordingly.

But how do I know if I get the penalty or not?

    I'm no SEO expert when it comes to blog/website SEO, but I do talk regularly with a guy that does SEO for a living.....

    He talked about a new update the other day that gives new original content an initial boost in the rankings, and later they would fall...I've noticed it with a few of my posts.

    Also, another thing to consider, where did these pages rank initially? Did they just show up on the first page, or did they work their way up? I'm just thinking that maybe they might have been good enough to rank by themselves, then the backlinks got indexed and lowered your ranking?

    • Have you checked in Google Webmasters tool? Google usually send messages for penalty on Webmasters tool. If there will be no messages then you can check your backlinks sources. You need to evaluate from where you are getting backlinks and if you will find some sites which are good or relevant then try to remove the links from them.

      Moreover make sure your links should be diversified. As getting many links from a single source is not a good technique instead you should have link back from different web sites.
  • Yes right you need to have GWT to know if there is message from Google if you been hit by manual penalty otherwise it can be algorithmic penalty. Maybe there something that you did that trigger it especially that huge dropped of rankings.

    You can use ahref, analyze your backlink. Check any lost or your check any anchor txt distributions.

  • Google Webmaster tool is really a good option to find out the manual penalty. But, I don't think this kind of change in your ranking lead by penalty. Analyize your backlinks and make sure they are relevant and on good portals to offer better genuine information to others.
  • I checked the G master tool, but I do not get any notice from it. I knew my anchor text distributions are not good. I have 2 money keywords which are almost same % of a main URL anchor text. So, I was just thinking to increase the main URL anchor text, but then they dropped. Should I increase the main URL link?

    Well, the reason behind drop in rankings can be because of many ..... As you said you're not under penalty then the reason may be you competitors have done much better SEO than you are currently doing ! You may be working somewhere else i.e. you may be giving attention to only the backlinks not the other ......

    PS: There may be many reason behind the drop I'll say not one can point out the exact reason best thing is to keep working on and do a competitor analysis and look what others are ??? This drop in ranking can also because of the Google Dance.
  • I think here's your answer. Your articles may have had "boost" for being new, but dropped after that. Google seems to do this with blog articles and news stories.

    It's also possible that the articles newer really ranked that high. Often people don't realize that they're logged in to Google services. Personalized results may totally skew what you see in the SERPs.
  • These Keywords will rank high again just continue quality work.
  • if your site is relatively new then this type of jump is normal. I would suggest to give it some time to settle (2-3 weeks) and see if it gets back to original position. Continue building quality backlinks in the mean time.

      It's been for 6days since the keywords dropped, and I do not see any movement yet.

      I just got new backlinks which will be done in 5days. Will see what happens.
