No matter how many visitors a website has, it fails because of high bounce rate. Can you give me tips on how I can get visitors to stay and read my content for the sufficient time that I need them to stay on the website?

Here are the factors I consider:
(in no particular order)

1. Content
2. Loading time
3. Landing Page Layout
4. Broken Links
5. Pop-ups/Website disguised as an ad..

I'd also like to know if using ad.fly affects a user's surfing experience.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

ad.fly is going to put your visitors off for sure, nothing more annoying than getting hit with an ad.fly link before the site even loads.

Best way to get people to stick around on your site is using engaging content, like relevant videos. Try embedding niche related youtube videos into the posts, this will help with rankings your visitor bounce rate, people always stick around longer to watch videos.

The problem with this method is that videos tend to "slow" the website. I'm planning to get one this month and videos might not be the best option for me.

I'd like to create an illusion of the user staying on my page not because of linkbait methods to bring readers to my engaging content but because they HAVE to. Is there anyway to do this?

Well, tell you what you are getting a higher bounce rate because your site doesn't have the information people are searching around. I think rather than concentrating around with some other alternatives like ad.fly or I think you may need to look around your content try talking with the visitors about what they are searching for and .....

You already mentioned some good factors to minimize your bounce rate and I would suggest you to add relevant content links on your pages so that visitors can be attracted to visit more of your website pages, which ultimately reduce your bounce rate.

I would suggest you to avoid using ad.fly ads, as its very irritating.

In my efforts to create amazing ad-free content, this can be difficult. What my ideal bounce rate would be at least 2 minutes within the site. Content may not actually be about articles, but a combination of text, pictures and/or webcomics. However it's unavoidable to make this happen.

Everyone says content is king, but we are in the business of making SEO happen and I believe links are still relevant to the issue.

That's not bounce rate, but average/minimum time of visit. Bounce rate is just the percentage of visitors who left after the first page. It's not necessarily a good way to judge a site. For example link bait in social media typically increases bounce rate because visitors are coming for that one piece and nothing else.

Have you tried some kind of related articles listing?

Do you have Alexa's tracking tool installed to your site? If the answer is no, their numbers can be way off. It's just a glorified guess based on spotty data that they get from their browser toolbar.

Google at least knows exactly how often your visitors bounce back to the search result pages.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

If you are suffering from a high bounce rate, then you need to re-focus on your content. Remember, write valuable content for the people searching, and not for google.

If your content is good, you can positively effect your bounce rate by interlinking your pages, so the visitor will stay on your site longer.

ads always effect the users experience, but all ads aren't bad. If you have targeted traffic, ads can be a good thing

A friend advised me that if I'm going to have ads on my website, have targeted ads specific to the article. Say the article is about Ikebana then I should target flower shop ads.

I've heard a lot of talk about "Content is King" but just like in the game of chess., it can't move on it's own. I'd like them to go deep in my website without relying on content only. I'd be doing research on that and write an article about my findings.
