Theory on longer google sandbox

I have a theory on what the purpose of the new/longer/tougher google sandbox might be.

For clarification, by sandbox I mean the first 4-6 months of a sites existence during which google now seems to avoid giving you good rankings.

I think it's a trial period for google to observe your growth patterns, for the purpose of evaluating how natural it is.

Eg are you flooding thousands of links all in one day, or is your link profile gradually increasing. And do your posts and site size show a commitment to steady growth as opposed to one big opening bang.

Whether this theory is true or not, the existence of this longer sandbox means we should definitely all focus on gradual growth anyway, since you won't likely rank early either way.

If you are depending on just google in the first 4-6 months, then you're in trouble. You can rank early, it depends on what you're ranking for.

Make a new post on a fresh domain, have that post go viral, check the serps, you'll be number one.

But yeah, google works at the correct pace. Build a good business and at the end of the year, you will get rewarded with all your hard work. Google finds it hard to believe you have a good website in the first 3-6months. The phrase "if its too good to be true, it usually is" comes to mind.

Google tends to observe new websites first before ranking them but If you have high quality content that is updated regularly it can become popular and this will definitely increase your chances of getting ranked early. I have heard of many websites who were successful in getting a Google page rank in less than a year.

Google is focusing more and more on social media footprints now. If your stuff goes viral and you have authority figures sharing and discussing your content on social media, the site might start ranking within weeks.
