Website description not showing up properly in search results

Hi there -

We're trying to optimize my wife's website, favorcreative.com and we've refined the name and description tags for the home page - however, when we view the site in Google's search results, it's not showing the proper site description.

For example -

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q...orcreative.com

If you view the first search result there it shows some mangled incorrect site description. However, if I look at the tags directly via meta tags search engine promotion, it shows the correct tags with correct site description -

Metatags check for: Favor Creative - Where Creative Eco-Friendly Party Favors are Handmade Just for You!

Secondly we check the source of your website. We analyze if you have placed metatags and which metatags you have placed. We also check the size of these metatags.
Metatags Length Characters
Title: 84 Favor Creative - Where Creative Eco-Friendly Party Favors are Handmade Just for You!
Description: 199 Favor Creative specializes in designing creative eco-friendly party favors. Our products are unique and fun for business and personal events. Great for weddings, engagement parties, showers and more.
What are we doing wrong?

Thanks.

Mike

    Hi Mike,

I would say that Google doesn't like your meta description so they are choosing other text found of your page for the text snippet.

I must say that the meta description you have now for the homepage isn't well written for a search text snippet, so a rewrite of your description might be in order.

Try updating your description to something more like this:

Eco-friendly party favors, original, handcrafted by Favor Creative. Personalized gift tags printed on 100% recycled paper. Get free shipping on orders over $100, Shop now!

Yup - I just read a very good explanation here, which corroborates what you've said -

Why Won't Google Use My META Description? - Moz

I agree the meta description is poor. I did not write it, but looks like I may have to write it since my wife appears to be missing the core concept

Oh and I didn't initially realize that you provided a suggested rewrite (it's late here in NY) ... so thanks very much for that - much appreciated!

@dburk - I just took another look at what my wife had written and I'm wondering if you provide some further clarification on what makes your proposed meta description favorable to the one she's got in place?

      Her current description -

Favor Creative specializes in designing creative eco-friendly party favors. Our products are unique and fun for business and personal events. Great for weddings, engagement parties, showers and more.

I can see removing the fluff words, but I'm hoping to improve my overall understanding.

      Thanks.
