I really believe that backlinks are really just a form of advertisement. however just curious if you place relevant backlinks from niche forums, directories etc., if that can help your rankings.

I have seen too many posts in here that have shown that these type of backlinks do push websites up in rankings.

so do relevant, niche backlinks do the trick?

In my personal experience I haven't seen any direct evidence that backlink relevance helps. However, I still seek out relevant backlinks, because my suspicion is that it makes some degree of difference.

I've seen many examples of sites ranking with irrelevant backlinks, but I'm sure other SEOs have observed things differently.

A backlink that's an advertisement is supposed to be a nofollow, if a blogger writes about you and puts a backlink on their site to yours it's no more of an advertisement than Bob recommending to John that he should try this great pizza place in town.

Remember, we want natural "looking" backlinks....

backlinks related to your site are better than irrelevant backlinks, and will help it rank better, and keep you flying below the radar....

Think about it, if your site was to get a manual review, natural relevant looking backlinks are FAR better than ones that don't have anything to do with your site.

If the site linking to yours is relevant to your topic, it is better.

Well, here I would say a big yes getting a backlinks from your relevant niche forums is going to help you in increasing your rankings.

Random linkings to the site is pretty helpful in increasing bounce rate and i don't think you need more bouce rate ??

PS: Getting backlinks from your niche based directories isn't going to help you out ! Because directories are outdated only DMOZ and Yahoo directories are enough !

Relevancy is mostly based on anchor text and content surrounding your link.

Links from sites that cover only that topic are stronger as those tend to have other relevant pages that link to the page your link is on, so a higher relevance really.

But ranking solely based on web directory links and forums, not much of a chance when it gets slightly more competitive.

I have several theories on this matter. It has been proven that QUALITY links improve backlinks and blog comments/spam DECREASE rankings. I have also seen to a grate extent the site with the highest CTR gets ranked first. If your site is ranked last and it suddenly starts getting a better CTR then the site ranked first you will get ranked higher gradually as google thinks that it must be better content.

    Hope this Helped

It would be much better to promote on SEO & Marketing websites if you promote your SEO services, not only about SEO, but DIRECT visitors! Nobody will visit your blog about pets for example in a SEO-related website for example!
