How to compete in the tickets niche?

I want to start an affiliate site in the concert/sports ticket niche.

But just looking at the competition, IT IS INSANE.

You're competing against ticketmaster, stubhub, and a bunch of other really established sites.

For anyone with experience in the niche, how do you compete in it, SEO wise? Targeting something like 'Los Angeles lakers tickets' seems near impossible with the competition.

Any thoughts?

It might be easier to think outside of Google as a traffic source. A buddy of mine is killing it in this niche and isnt even using google

It is true - very competitive. I have been at it for a year and still need my day job. I have has my share of sports and concert ticket sales, but at the commission rate I have per sale - I have made a $135 to every $100 put up in ads it seems. Getting traction in the ticket sales industry is very difficult. Keep fighting the good fight :-)

The best way to start in my opinion is to start you SEO/SEM camping by targeting for long tail keywords as you can not beat your competitors with short keywords. Once you get goo ranking for some long tail keywords and your ranking becomes stable you can then start focusing on targeting for short keywords.

FB Advertising would not be a bad option. You can always target people with a interest in a certain artist.

You could even break it down further to run ads for that artist in the areas they will be touring. I believe with FB ads you can schedule things out to run from a start date to a end date.

You might get a better ROI doing it that way.
