Question about too many inbound links?

Hey,

According to Google Webmaster Tools, one of my sites has over 1000 inbound links from a certain website. The website is popular and in the same niche and I have commented it on a few times, but it has a 1000 links to my home page. It doesn't make sense. It use to be at 300, which I thought was odd and now it is at 1000.

What should I do?

  • Is that "other website" yours, too?
If so, you may manually unlink some.
Otherwise, sending an email or contacting the webmaster of that website with a request to remove some links may help.

    • That is odd if you've only commented a few times. Maybe Google is misreporting the link count? I agree with deekay about contacting the webmaster and asking that some/all of your links be removed if it is hurting your SEO and traffic efforts.

    • Yep this is what happened. Your comments were on a 'recent comments' widget, so when the site got crawled, the link was on every page. It will work itself out eventually when the site gets crawled again.
