Are those "minimalist" index pages going to Rank in Google now?

I got around to re doing a wordpress site and the theme I bought for it
is a "minimalist" look, you know picture or slide at the top, comment on
the side

Then two columns with little space to put anything. Then three columns
to put a little bit with icons. Then a few lines more below that.

I thought I could put more in, but no go.

I know some sites are using this, but in my experience Google is happier
with 500 - 750+ words or more on a page. And I am finding it hard not
to over optimize keywords, simply because there is so little space.

I don't think this is going to work, but wanted to check with others in case
it is working....

What has been your experience lately?

Thanks

Jeannie

Nobody is ranking pages just because they have more text than competition.

I personally do not believe that the more content the better. Even empty pages do rank. It's been proven many times in case studies. So don't worry about the length of your content. Your aim should be to satisfy your visitors and give them what they are searching for.
