It will. Duplicacy is one of the reasons many sites get smacked during panda updates. Go over to iWriter.com, sign up for an account, and pay writers to rewrite the same article multiple times so that they will all be unique. That's the best approach.

Have no idea why people still hold on to this myth. Duplicate content, in and of itself, has nothing
to do with anything. If it did, then every big, authoritative site which uses duplicate content
ad nauseum, would be punished. They aren't because it won't.

Paying writers to rewrite the same article multiple times, well, that is just a waste of time
and money. That bad advice trumps even trumps the first of your reply.

I do this to track the results from different marketing channels.

    There are two options:

    1) Create a version of the sales page for the search engines. This way you can measure how many sales you get from organic searches for the product. Then, duplicate that page for your other marketing channels and block the search engines from the page. I did this for years. Works fine and never had a ranking issue.
    2) Create ONE version of the sales page and use a URL variable to track where the traffic came from. Add a php script which populates the payment button for that channel based on the URL variable.

Either way, duplications only affect you when there's a LOT of content duplicated on the same URL. If it's just a buy button or a bio at the bottom of a blog, it won't hurt. I've had plenty of sites on page one with small pockets of duplicate content (Bios, offers) on all the pages.
