I came across any interesting video that broke down a few niche sites and it's competition. The tool the guy is using seems a bit pricey but given the detailed analysis it provides I guess it can justify the price.

Anyhow check out the video and any feedback or thoughts you have.

Anchor Link diversity is something thats really important but dont believe everything you read/watch regarding certain ratios. The reality is it really depends on the niche and keyword you are targeting. I have seen sites spammed with over a 90% keyword ratio and not been penalised even during a penguin refresh. Then again, try doing that for a site in say the forex niche and see what happens. You will likely be penalised and/or removed from the index.

I suspect there is a lot of manual reviewing going on in highly competitive niches.

I agree -anchor text diversity is certainly not black and white. I tend to opt for very cautious approach these days though, creating a whole bunch or generic/branding/url anchors first then just slowly dripping anchors until they rank.

I usually tell anyone that asks me about exact anchor text percentages to follow that there is no fixed percentage. It depends on the niche. If sites in your niche have 85% exact anchor links, you may get away with, say, 75% exact match. But if you repeat that in a niche where the top sites all have less than% exact anchor links, you may get into trouble.

Two tips. 1, you can always look at who's ranking in the top 5 and mimic their anchor text ratios. If it's already happening in your industry, it should be fine for you too. 2, don't ever pay for a anchor text diversity or ratio tool, that's ridiculous.

It is extremely important to divers the anchor text. Stop if you are still following strict anchor text guidelines?
Here's the thing... 20% here, 10% this, 30% there... is NOT natural. And as you know... the secret to SEO is keeping everything natural-looking

Anchor text should not be dependent on a strict guideline, but instead, the anchor text should be based on the TYPES of links

A contextual link does not have the same anchor text as a profile link, just as an example
