I know that posting articles on article directories for link building is now seen as a low quality form of link building. How effective though is article marketing as a form of actually driving traffic to your squeeze pages?

Most article directories no longer rank well in Google, so there is a very low chance of your article receiving a sizable amount of traffic from article directories, which means it's probably not worth it.

3 years ago a popular technique in affiliate marketing was create 5-10 articles per day, post on article directories and link to your landing page... it worked a treat! Now not so much

like the above - I would say "meh".

Another good technique (more up to date) is posting content to slideshare.com because it generates a lot of traffic but only if you pdf / presentation will rank. If your article / pdf / presentation is longer then 3 sites or something like this you can add a link into it which in this case would be your squeeze page

Ezine Articles still works for this purpose.

Slideshare is killer if you provide good content.

  • Article marketing is the best if you can write but you have to use the right platform and the best platforms are
    a) Slideshare
    b) LinkedIN

Well I guess being able to write will help you in article marketing joke
The platforms you have mentioned, are they better to use than actual directories?

Up to 2012 article marketing worked very, very well. However 2012 saw huge changes with Google rolling out a series of algorithm updates and changes like the Panda and Penguin updates.

But Article Marketing is still effective for your online business strategy, but the outdated method of thinking you can whip up a few hundred words with a link back to your website and then expect it to rank highly on the search engines are long gone.

If you can find good article directories, go ahead but I am wary of Google slapping them and all your work goes up in smoke. Look for "Slap proof techniques", I'd say.

I find social media and forums to be the most efficient ways. Don't worry about article marketing, that just doesn't work as well as it used to. Promote just one link across all channels. Focus your efforts and results will come. Good luck.

Article marketing is not at all effective these days, even if you post around 100 articles on a daily basis to really good directories, you would be just getting around 2-3 visitors if you are lucky. Try to post on some web 2.0 blogs and social networking sites...

Well this is the opposite of what our fellow warrior "Slin" is saying... So does it work or doesn't it?

I know there are 2 different end goals mentioned here. If you are trying to rank your site we know that that will not be very effective. For the purpose of driving traffic though, does it work?

If you want to drive traffic Ezine Articles will drive traffic, unless you're in a super unheard of niche.

Post 2 articles there and then come back here after they go live and tell us how many click throughs you get, you should get a few.

But Slideshare is still better as far as bumming traffic off of a site, plus they rank well.

Someone else mentioned social media, one of the best ways to build a list is to have a popup on your blog and to try to make your blog go viral on social media. This is what has really been working for me lately, social media is an easy way to drive free traffic.

But if you want to try out ezine I'd go for it, it still sends traffic.

          Thanks for the info.

I know ezine articles is a popular choice for many, I don't know too much about slide share but the proof is in the posting like you said.

Articles writing is only effective when you have high quality content and it is making sense to post, the most important thing in content based marketing and link-building is that your content should be perfect.
