Do you guys still use EMD for new sites? I don't know if this looks spammy or takes a hit these days. Or should I go for a partial match?

Thanks

An EMD will not effect you negatively in the Google if you have quality content/backlinks. The hoopla a year or so ago about EMD's was essentially just Google removing an advantage EMDs once had. So instead of a positive signal, it just doesnt send one at all now.

EMDs will still give you a decided advantage in Bing/Yahoo.

Smart is right.....After all every penalty that search engine gives on the basis of back-links and content quality. so when you do a well these both than you don't have to worry about more...

Google was looking at EMD as one of their triggers for demoting a low quality site. So if your site is considered low quality in Google's eyes the EMD could result in a loss of position. EMD is very good for getting searchers to click on your link, but I prefer to use synonyms as domain names and put the exact match in the description. This prevents any penalty.

    EMD's work in SEO
    EMD's dominate ppc

An EMD is actually the preferred buyer on Google due to how the serps highlight the EMD so an EMD gets a better ctr in ppc campaigns if done right, increasing QS

EMD's have ruled SE's since 1995 and will continue to do so as long as you have it developed.

Nothing could be further from the truth, all having an EMD does is increase the risk of getting a penalty.

Others have pointed out that as long as you have good quality signs and backlinks you don't have to worry about getting penalized, this is true but when your site is new you wont have all these trust factors and could get penalized. Also if you use a brand site instead of an EMD you can be much more aggressive with your anchor text backlinks at the start and rank for your keywords much faster.

EMDs no longer offers any SEO benefit so why would you keep using them? There is also a risk of Google penalizing EMD sites in the future that are not VERY high quality.

It is very rare to see EMD sites on the first page of Google for high level competition keywords, that alone should tell you to stop using them.

The only difference is that with an EMD it is much easier to trigger a penalty when backlinking or doing onpage seo. If you don't focus your backlinks on the main keyword, and under optimize your H1s and so on, you should be fine.

EMD is an "Exact Match Domain" algorithm. Generally it used for Instant Promotion and instant result in Search Engine. People buy domain which exact matches with your product. In that cases, Website get banned because of Spam Content and Spam Acitivities. So google has released EMD Update to stop domain spamming. But if you use Exact Match Domain, put unique content and avoid any spam acitivities, then EMD will not hurt you.

EMD is not dead and still plays a role as a ranking factor. Just don't go crazy with them. howtoloseweightwithin7days.com does not look natural.

"EMDs no longer offers any SEO benefit so why would you keep using them?"

Do you have any proof to say that? Most of my sites are carefully chonen EMD's and they are ranking far better and more stable than just keyword optimised pages. I haven't seen any penalties!

Google's EMD algorithm update made it easier to get penalized when using an EMD and removed any bonus rank increase from having an EMD. Many well known SEOs have done tests and confirmed this.

This question just won't die. Keywords in your domain are barely a ranking factor anymore. Google hates EMD's, and almost all the good ones are taken or penalized. Supposedly PMD's are working ok now, but with Google's love for brands why even mess with it. You can be WAY more aggressive with branded links.

Don't listen others who have even not tried to rank EMD's!

I am certainly agree with few points here said by others. EMD still drives some advantage even today, might be it is less than it was earlier. Second it is on the verge of penalty because Google runs EMD updates and if your website has low quality content and backlinks then two things leads penalty quicker than others. I prefer to use PMD instead of EMD because PMD also drives some the advantages while it is less vulnerable to penalty compare to EMD. I will include my brand name in PMD.

EMD still works. But not at the same level as they used to. What will work better is EDM with great content and a white hat SEO backlink profile. That can surely role in traffic and rankings for you.

An EMD doesn't work as well in google as it used too, i can attest to that, in Bing it still holds a decisive advantage, also in Adwords a EMD say for a local business like auto repair charlotte nc will certainly give you a boost in adwords, i can attest to that

Even big brands today are using EMDs as micro-sites. If they aren't getting penalized why would you ?

The same rules still apply to EMDs as they apply to normal domains. Just because its an EMD don't expect it to magically appear top listed, it happens with low competition keywords but not even with medium-high anymore.

I've never seen a big brand have a domain like buy-cheap-lawn-mowers.com, because that's pretty much what OP is buying. He sure as heck isn't buying cars.com.

I second that. However, if you would still want to get some quality (not spammy) EMDs, you can use them to build micro sites with a link back to your main site.

EMDs are still working, you just have to scale back on other factors like onsite and back linking. Pretty sure the OP isn't planning to build an authority site with a spammy sounding EMD anyways.
