I am setting up a new service based website. I know you need content and I have some good unique content to add. 5 pages to start and will silo them with about 5 posts each.

I have a new theme that is really nice I purchased here by a warrior .The home page has a lot of widgets and some text boxes to add text in and a lot of images . So it is pretty much a (pretty) site theme.

My question: is it ok to use this foe SEO? I mean can I have my nice pretty home page and then on my pages have all the content? or should I have a lot of content on the home page? I will have my 5 pages targeting my 5 main keywords and my posts targeting my LSI type keywords. I just do not want my home page to Mess me up in my project.

What do you pros say?

Thanks

Look at the text only version of the live webpage, is it SEO friendly?

You can get a web developer plugin for firefox (free) that will simulate a Google Cache (text version).

    Download the browser plugin.

Having dedicated optimized inner pages usually works best, but you want to have a good text/image ratio in my opinion, at least 50 unique words per image and make sure you compress your images so you page loads fast, this is important as a google ranking signal and for user experience, you can test page speed here Website speed test ideally you want to load faster than your page 1 competitors to have an advantage...

You can try onsite optimization for homepage with including some of basic content, while keeping more content for inner pages

I guess my question is if I have good content 200-300 words on homepage and 500-1000 on other pages will Google count it as that? or will they count each page and if I have little content on the homepage just move along without giving much (content Credit)

I always put 500-700 words of good quality content on my homepage. I then put really good content on my siloed pages as well. It is always best to err on the side of caution. If you are concerned that 200-300 words on the homepage will not be enough, then place more there.

Also keep the number of links on your home page to a minimum. Yes have your main silo pages there but anything more than that will make your page rank bleed.

Thanks for the info. I will try and put more content on homepage then. Also thanks for the tip about the home page back links. I heard that elsewhere also to only try and backlink and focus on your pages instead of home page. That is why I was wondering if the Homepage content really matters as much.

Yes for the best SEO result for your home page your content must be unique, that will surely increase your home page rank. After that start onsite optimization process for ranking your site.
