my website is about brain and brain related stuff like speed reading, memory development. but it has a forum that is about softwares andl webmasters as well. I want to know is having these two completely different topics on the same domain going to destroy my rankings? or is it going to improve my rankings? i need serious opinion. Because if it is going to destroy my rankings in the long run, i will be deleting the forum that deals with softwares and stuff

  • Why in the world would anyone put a forum on their website about a completely different topic?
  • but i have done so. answer to the my question please? it is never too late i guess
  • If it is totally unrelated to the rest of your site, I do not see how it would be beneficial.
  • totally unrelated. Now if i move it from the subdirectory to a subdomain of my website. will it be ok then?

    • Having completely unrelated topics wont "hurt", but that won't help either. If you wat to keep them, I think it'd be better to move them to a sub domain.
    • Why not just move it to a new domain?

  • some people say it will not hurt and some people say it will turn google off. what exactly is true?

Like Mike said why would you even consider an irrelevant forum? Doesn't make any sense for traffic or SEO.

Having irrelevant pages isn't going to be helpful so it might as well be hurting your SEO.

Spend $10 on a new domain & be done with it.

  • will it be ok if i move that forum to a subdomain of my website?

    • Why are you not listening to what people are telling you?

You will gain absolutely nothing from having an "SEO Forum" on a website primarily about the human brain. If anything, you will saturate your main site by having irrelevant content.

Keep them separate, and buy a new domain for the SEO forum (as explained 50 times already).
  • Not unless your website is about artificial intelligence. Now that would make a difference.
  • Buy a new domain or create a subdomain and move the forum to it. Next time, don't put a site on one topic and a forum on another topic on the same domain. It's just not right.

    • Its a forum. so simple

Put some categories to deal with speed reading, memory and the mind etc in the forum. They are not completely different - smart people are webmasters and software developers. Of c ourse if you have no members then whats the fuss? delete.

But if its active and bringing in traffic I find a way to work it into my site not move it at least not without good notice to my forum users.

  • What about "global" websites that have content from all areas?
I don't see how your rank will suffer from that association with more topics...is simply impossible.
We don't speak about backlinks that need to come from relevant source. Is a totally new are of your website.
Maybe you will lose ranking only if you interlink different topics between them.
  • It will not be beneficial to have 2 completely different topics on the same domain, the best thing to do is either move the webmaster forum to a new domain or at least to a sub domain, but still moving it to a new domain is better, you can link to it from your brain site, although even linking between unrelated websites is not good either in term of SEO.
  • Some interesting topics I see. I believe that, whether or not is is/or not going to destroy rankings I think you should get id of it anyway.
