Is there a free site to run to see if your links are bad? Is there a way to tell which ones are bad and need to be disavowed?
#backlinks #bad

    1. No, how can a tool tell about it ?
    2. If the links are coming from sites that are irrelvant to your niche. Generally PORN, CASINO are considered bad.
    3. Low Domain Authority and PAGE AUTHORITY links are also considered bad.

That is not true at all. DA and PA have NOTHING to do with determining if a link is bad or not.

If anchor text is Porn, gambling, farma related it's bad.
If website from which you got link is pure spam it's bad.
If website completely unrelated (for example in Chinese language) it's bad.

          what was said already

Is the site/page your link is on unrelated to your site?
Are there a bunch of links on the page out to other sites without good reason?
Is the link in the form of a blog comment?
Is the link on an article directory?
Is the link a profile link?
Is the link on an auto-approve directory full of crap?
Did you buy the links from Fiverr or the WSO section here?

If you can answer 'Yes' to any of those, it is probably a bad link.

I don't think profile link is bad link. Actually this kind of link is good for SEO unless the site has low page/domain authority.

And, this is the problem you run into when paying someone else to get backlinks for your site. You can't be sure they won't just mass spam thousands of sites with software. And, then you have a few months of clean up effort for the cheap links.

Also there isn't any software that could automatically detect if a site belongs to any of those categories you listed. Only manual visual inspection would work.

          Possible bad backlinks may inlcude:

          1. Too many exact match anchor texts
          2. Links from irrelevant sites
          3. Links from low profile directories, bookmarking sites, PR sites
          4. Links from other GTLD domains (if you are targeting USA, try to get backlinks from .com or .us domains and NOT from .com.au, .uk domains.)

There's a tool for checking toxic backlinks that has worked great for me, it's called Link Detox Tool.

          Enjoy...

Profile links were one of the first type of links Google targeted heavily. The year before Penguin was released, the first batch of "unnatural link" notices went out to webmasters. These notices were largely attributed to profile links. Those who did not clean up their mess were later hit by Penguin when it was unleashed.

It depends why you want to disavow links.
    1) If you used some link building tool and you got penalized for it, just export links from that tool and disavow them.
    2) If you got some negative SEO attack you'll need to use https://ahrefs.com.

    Hope it helps

Link Detox (Link Detox - Ready for Penguin 3.0? Link Audit & Risk Management) is one such tool but it isn't free. By merely viewing a backlink, you should know if it is a good one or not. Bad links are links in bad neighborhoods, links placed through spammy methods such as mass profile and blog comments blasting, links placed within spun content, hidden links, etc.

Linkdetox is a rip off, have you seen their pricing? Have you seen the reports they offer? Yuck. They've got one heck of a marketer on their team because I see the spam ads all over everywhere but the reports are terrible.

I find Google Penalty Recovery & Backlink Removal Service - LinkDelete.com does a better job at identifying bad links, and they also have a free tool to check your backlink data. Just put your domain in on the homepage and it does analysis for you for free. You only have a few lookups or your IP is blocked I think. My thinking is why would I pay for a backlink audit from Linkdetox that's worse and doesn't offer link cleanup? You know?

You can try and find the bad links yourself as well, it all starts with downloading backlink reports from all of the major backlink checkers such as majesticseo.com, ahrefs.com, moz's reports. You can also see a brief backlink report for free from Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch

At the end of it all though remember the worse the backlink profile, the more at risk your site is with the new penguin.

True story..the case study went a little like this.

900 of them make no-follow links.

Check out Alexa The free service doesn't tell you about the links but it will show you a list of your website links. Don't know if this would be the best tool but it is valuable in some circumstances.

In my opinion, Bad links are mass links.
Unattended links are also bad in my eyes.

When linking, I try too stay in the same content. I also keep book marks and record of every link and attend them once a month too update and keep active.

Truely, we have no control over it on which websites people placing the backlins (if we talking about people activity) so in my opinion it doesn`t not matter so much but under one condition it must be diversified a lot, so if all the backlinks pointed to your site will come from such poor websites it will be sign to google it`s not natural and it`s bad. But if you have full variety of backlinks sources I thing there is nothing to worry about.

Monitor backlink can give you a basic idea on which links are good and which are toxic and needs attention. Maybe using monitor backlink can be helpful. But due to its extensive usage, free service is unavailable.
