How long can it take to rank a site - with 50% competition level

Any idea how long it could take to show results with quality content and careful linking?

Say one keyword is around 50% competetion level according to Moz. Some sites on page 3 of some of our keywords didn't even have such high quality links to it and one even had five links apparently, while our penguin hit site seems stuck on page 8-10.

If it doesn't go up after the next penguin update it seems like a new site would be the way to go.

Thanks

Moz doesn't have a clue about competition. Do the comp. research otherwise your just guessing (like moz).

Have to agree with Yuke on this one. No number or percentage number works for determining competition. They all suck. Only analyzing the top five works

This is what I do. You need to look at WHO is ranking for a particular term.

Do not rely on a computer to do all of the work for you.

You will need to validate your data before you invest time and money.

It take a few moments per term, but it will save you a TON of time.

It takes a different amount of time to rank any two different sites even if they are targeting the same keywords, so no one can tell you how long you have to wait. Just be patient and don't stop building links at a slow pace.

There is no fix time to rank a keyword. Write quality in depth article on the keyword which you want to rank with appropriate keywords density, Optimize Title, description, keywords, Header tags, image and then create quality back links from relevant niche and keep adding fresh and unique articles to your site. The ranking of the keyword will start improving
