Huge Budget for Rep Mgmt, expired domains not working. What would you do?

I have a client who I am doing reputation management for and he has given me a practically unlimited budget to make some news articles disappear from page 1. The keyword is his name and when you search it there are 3 negative news articles at the top of Google. The next 4 "good" results are two aged domains with his name in the URL, a linked in page and a facebook search results page.

I spent a few thousand already and bought 15-20 HIGH quality expired domains to create a blog network with. All the expired domains were given fresh new content, each has a unique host, basically I've taken the steps necessary to make sure there is no footprint. I linked my network to my "good pages" (each one has 8-10 links from my expired domains) but have seen absolutely no movement for about 10 days.

Does anyone have experience with using a private blog network for reputation management? I figured it would be easy because its a very unique name with no competition. The news articles are from established local newspapers, but an aged exact match URL should be able to outrank it with a private blog network right? Or at least it should cause SOME movement.

I'm interested in what you guys think I may be doing wrong AND what you would do for reputation management if you had an unlimited budget.

I was also thinking of using some of the linkbuilding packages here. Appreciate any recommendations.

Unless it's a famous/popular persons name your probably doing overkill buying any domains.

BTW, this subject comes up about once a week on this forum.

That's exactly why I'm posting this looking for constructive advice from better SEOs than myself. The client is not famous, so the private blog network SHOULD have worked. What would you have done to rank the "good" sites ?

    Oh so many questions...

    A) Why not use aged domains as the pages to host additional good reviews on? They will rank more easily (if they really are good domains to begin with) and you can continue to develop and deploy them to paint any picture of this guy you want to. They could potentially be the ultimate resource for not just washing out negative domains but personal promotion in any field or on any topic this guy wants to be recognized for to begin with.

    B) Are these pages you are trying to have outrank the news posts 'inhibited' in any way? By that, I mean are they bad targets to begin with?

    C) If you don't want to use aged domains as the tools that actually rank and promote this guy and you want to displace the other 'News' stories - why not try a series of press releases that also get featured in Google News and then promote those stories in an attempt to displace the other news stories?

    D) By unlimited resources, what are we really talking about here? I only ask because this is a problem that can very easily go away with the correct funding, but if you've already spent thousands and didn't make it happen - have you already burnt your bridges with poor performance?

I mean, if you want to go just ******* crazy with it - host charity events - invite local papers to come down and help 'Draw some attention to your cause' and then promote those stories...

I'm just saying, an unlimited budget could do amazing things for you if you went outside of the box a bit.

      Thanks for contributing

      1) I didnt go this route because we already had 4 "good" sites ranking in position 4-8, so I thought it would be easier to use the PBN to push these up rather than use the expired domains as the target sites.

      2) I'm not sure if they are inhibited or not. They were all ranking on page 1 for his name before the news article occurred. Two of them are exact match urls of his name, one is an amazon book review (author shares his name), and one is a profile on SBA.gov. What makes a site a bad target or "inhibited" as you put it

      3) I like this idea but I've done press releases before and they never got picked up on Google News.. do you know any good way to increase the odds?

      4) I haven't burned the bridge thankfully, he understands its difficult but he really does have a large budget, maybe I exaggerated with unlimited but its at least 10-20k.. I like the charity idea

Some optimized press releases for sure will make the job, if you want to be a little bit further hire a copywriter to write a good story that will be picked by news channels then buy the PRweb package (it is the package I have seen has bigger distribution) and that should solve it.

I hate to say it but a dozen fiverr gigs for the most popular free sites (ex: Youtube, Pinterest, etc.. to fluff up the SERPs/keywords, ha, ha... If there was ever a time for junk now's the time.

No joke, I would go after the cheap stuff first, you can always bill at an hourly rate for your time. If that doesn't work break out the stronger links.

Whatever you do get the name/location in all the page titles.

There are so many open questions,

    1. Do the client have some youtube presence? if not then get a channel on his name and put some videos with his name in the title and normal youtube seo, embed them on your PBN etc and Google will show video results from youtube. you can use simple video tools such as animoto.com or windows movie maker to make videos quite easily from image slideshows.

    2. What were the anchor text you used to link to the rank 4-8 sites from your PBN?
Are you really sure , that the PBN were high quality expired domains, It is not easy to find high quality expired domains although everyone claims so. One has to see its link profile (quality and authority of its backlinks in details), trust, history, citation flow, trust flow and on and on..when did it expired?

    3. For Press release, with the recent Google Slap, they work just ok (unless you have some real news), but sure they get indexed, with such kind of budget, you can easily try PRWeb.com or Ereleases to get decent indexing and embed the videos in the PR etc.

    4. Yes, above idea for charity event, sponsorship of local events, and promoting those on Press release sites, Event Sites and even local news sites will be simple and effective.

    5. You can use his name and open profiles on various sites, such as Vimeo, Flickr(to get image results on first page), dailymotion.com and use the same videos and some images to get accounts on these and link to your target ranking urls as well. Try Knowem.com service to open accounts and put some content in there, they will link to your target sites and also rank themselves.About.me pages rank really well for name searches.

    6. If you can PM me details of your problem, i can give you some exact specific advice, i have handled similar issues. yes, it will be Free, and more specific,
since there will be low hanging tactics to push the bad results, once i see whats going on, i will be able to help better. Focusing on few strategies that work well is important

Hope this helps, thanks. Let me know if i can be of help

    Regards
    Jitu
