Is Wikipedia style internal linking (keyword anchor text) still effective?

Hi,
I remember a few years ago a lot of people were all over why Wekipedia pages ranked so high and one of the reasons they said (or I read) was its internal rinking structure, especially the internal linking with keyword anchor texts (linking to internal pages like keyword).

I know external links (backlinks) are more effective but to get the best out of internal links, is it still an effective practice?
(Or, has it ever been, should I ask?)

Thanks

Yes, internal linking is still important. It's best done in a silo structure to link pages of a similar theme to one another. This helps the search engines to recognize what your pages are about.

Thanks! I actually use silo structure.
I understand the importance of internal linking but I was wondering if I should use more keyword anchor texts deliberately(both on the side bar menu and contextual).

If you can advice on this specific part I would appreciate it

Yes, use anchor texts with your keywords in them. Contextual if you can is worth doing..

Yes, internal links can help rank pages. They can also help you get more from your external links by spreading that authority over multiple internal pages when targeting same/similar keywords.

Internal linking is more effective especially these days (: it`s very important, you will spend a lot less on backlinks, but vary your anchor text.

You`ve mentioned you have your website siloed, so have you tried to boost your subpages/posts to pass more link juice to your containers ?

It works like a charm (:

Think a little bit. Internal links make users easier to read and track your content. So it plays an importance role in SEO
