Make use of content from a penalized website?

Hi everyone, I have 2 websites in the same niche. One I got experimental with in terms of some black-hat practices, while the other I've done everything by the book.

The by-the-book website is starting to take off in this niche. Traffic has grown steadily, and each month it's breaking it's own records in terms of page views, rankings, and affiliate income.

The experimental/black-hat site is doing very poorly. I believe it got penalized somewhere along the way and I haven't been able to undo what happened to it.

Both sites have really great content. Original and unique, helpful to readers, step by step guides and information.

What I would like to do is make use of the great content on the penalized site and somehow transfer it over to the site that is doing well. I was thinking of re-writing each article and then doing a 301 from the penalized site to the other one. However I'm concerned that in doing so I might bring over some of the effects of penalization onto the site that's doing well.

Any other thoughts or strategies? Just nuke the penalized site altogether but still re-write the decent content on the other site?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm not much an SEO expert but I'd just re-write it and leave it at that. Don't redirect or link the two whatsoever. Why chance your growing site?

I've used content from penalized sites on new sites before, and haven't had a problem. But if you want to be extra careful, then rewrite it if you want to.

I'm not sure why you'd want to do a 301 from the penalized site to the site that is starting to do well.

I could advice you one of the 2 solutions

    1. deindex penalized domain, wait some period of time and then reuse the content,
    2. rewrite them (faster)

How do you know (beside guessing) that site has been penalized?

If you are sure the site has been penalized, there's no need to rewrite the content. Just deindex the penalized domain and use the content as it is on the website that is doing well.

Is it possible to take the content from the penalized site and put it together as a digital product or course? You could then sell it on the site that is doing well or give it away as a free report to build your list.

I would suggest you to just edit the content from the penalized site rather that pasting it as such. This would save the site from duplicate content and also give the site a fresh aesthetic.

Go For a 60 % modification or you will for sure be tanked now or then once search engines find you using it, as they create a data base for all this and create a filter so that it can't be used further.
