7th On Google - Achievement or not?

I've been putting in some effort recently using a 'Stop Smoking' campaign.

I'm using HubPages to host my unique articles. But, a few days ago my Internet went down so couldn't do much. I just checked Google using one of the keywords I targeted: 'Stop Smoking PDF' and it seems I'm 7th.

Now that keyword is very poor, I know. I have had zero conversions, and not much traffic. But, this for me is an achievement because I have never seen any of my campaigns benefit.

I am using long tail keywords writing articles using the keywords in an effort to get listed on Google. I hopefully aim to have around 100 articles by the end of the month. I've outsourced some work.

But if this was you, would you see it as an achievement or not?

Been on the 1st page is a great achievement. Try doing it for a more popular keyword and u'll see what I mean

It depends...if there are only 10 results and you are 7th, well it could be better. However, if you are 7th and there are 10,000 results, then that's much better.

You touched on the search volume, too, so it looks like you are being realistic with your expectations.

    Either way...congrats!

    All the best,
    Michael

Thanks guys. Well for that keyword, there are 1,300,000 results. But it gets searched rarely.

  • If you've got "stop smoking," you can find a lot of long-tails that might work.

It is an achievement but you shouldn't be complacent with #7. You should always try to increase your rankings until you are at #1.

I have a stop smoking site as well...and let me tell you, the competition is EVIL!!!!!

I have managed to get onto the 2nd page of Google for STOP SMOKING, but I've been at this site for years and years.

Best to target some longer tail keywords - unless you can get a ton of related backlinks...but as I said, the competition is fierce (backlinks are like gold) and good luck getting one from one of the .org or .edu stop smoking domains!

Let me know if you have any questions about the niche - I am very educated on it.

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

I'm 7th out of 17,700,000 for 'local gazette' and have been for a couple of years - keyword search level is good but visits don't reflect the position.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more

    James,

Congratulations! It is a great accomplishment!

Plus, the good news is that there are lots and lots of long-tail keyword phrases for quit smoking.

I looked at Google Keyword Tool, and there are many phrases that you can turn into "Page One" articles on Google. Just do your due diligence!

You have a good niche so run with it!

Everything is possible to achieve if you have the
      determination.

      I'm number 7-9 out of 410 000 000 competing sites
      for the keyword 'online business'.

That's for a website created 3 months ago on a brand
      new domain.

SEO is complex (but fun) and you need to study SEO
books if you want your sites to rank high.

Any result on page one is a good achievement.

Don't forget that the vast majority of search results are not exact matches, they contain either word plus near approximations.

If you enter ""stop smoking pdf" in quotes, there are 6000 results.

"Stop smoking book" would be worth going after.

Good result though - keep at it.

Yes, it is an achievement. It's a small step, but it is a start and you have to take encouragement from this and keep progressing.

    Yes that is an acheivement!

However ideally you want to be first or at least in the top 5 (above the fold) then you will see good traffic. Now all you need to do is add some good backlinks linking to your hubpage's and then your rankings will climb and your article writing efforts will be well worth it because they will be getting good consistent free traffic which is always great.

      Hi JamesJeffery,

Yes it's an achievement, but a very small achievement.

Virtually every page that gets indexed will immediately be on page one of results for some keyword. But it is only meaningful if there is relevant search traffic for that exact term. How big the achievement actually becomes, is measured by the amount of targeted traffic you receive.

Lao-Tzu said "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", this is your single step, just keep putting one foot in front of the other and before you know it you'll have gone far.

For sure it's good to achieve a 7th place on google's first page but i agree that the keyword matters a lot. You should target some competitive keyword and if you even come on top 2 pages of google then it's a great achievement
Well still congratulations for increasing your SERP .
    Thanks

    # of results is not important, if you take everything in consideration (how many pages are optimized for that kw), it's an easy kw to rank #1
