Webmaster Tools shows keyword in 10th place but doesn't show up on google results?

Could it be cause the image is ranking, or the serps haven't updated that keywords place yet?

One keyword shows 1,000% increase and says average 10th positiob yet it doesn't shoe up when Googling it.

Could penguin be blocking it or maybe it takes time for serps to update some keywords? Any ideas?

Thanks

  • Personalized search. What you see is not what everyone else sees in Google.

You can filter the data in WMT (text search, image search, etc...). I forget what it's called but the filter is in a drop down at the top/center of the data page (in WMT). That might help narrow it down.

Also, WMT might be showing outdated data, you might have once ranked & now your not ranking (competition).
  • Thanks. It appears to show around page 8 on another browser. It is a relatively new product on the site as well so it likely didn't rank before. Other keywords that used to be on page 1 also moved to around page 7-8 since penguin a while ago (have cleaned things up since then) so maybe it could be something similar or competition having higher ranking for the keyword at the moment.
  • What you see in your WMT account is an average.

Basically your site's average ranking for that term across many Google sites, not just Google.com (i.e. google.ca, google.uk., etc).

That's why nobody uses WMT for checking actual ranking!
