Hey Warriors,

Im just diving into SEO and seeing what it could do to my business. I wanted to ask this question because it was driving me nuts last night before i gave up looking for an answer.

I have a domain which I got just to redirect long ugly links. I made a blog and redirected it to my subdomain. Is that not a good idea when Google crawls it. I ask because when you go to the subdomain, the blog shows up good and all pages work, but the in the address bar its static on my sub domain name. Will this cause problems ranking high?

If you have used permanent SEO redirect 301, then you should be fine. The link juice and ranking of the blog will be passed to the subdomain.

The article you're referring to is one of the articles that made me remove those subdomains.

Especially these bits of text : "Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content."

"But most site owners whom I hear worrying about duplicate content aren't talking about scraping or domain farms; they're talking about things like having multiple URLs on the same domain that point to the same content. "

We could try to interpret what "substantially" means but with 70% similarity, I didn't want to take that risk.

Also, there is no clear info from Google stating that geo localization prevents duplicate content issues.

The things is webmasters are so afraid to get sandboxed and at the same time Google doesn't give too many details about its functioning.

So, in the end, there is no choice but going the "paranoia route".
