Does this make sense when blogging?

I've been blogging for a while now and there's something that I've always had a question about but never really knew where to find the answer.

When you're writing a blog for example, is it worth the time to link back to your own blog with different key word variations?

For example:

If my blog is called HowToMakeMoneyOnline.com and I hyperlink back to my own blog in a blog post with something like "Make Money Blogging" is that worth the effort? Or since I'm using my own blog to create backlinks is that link a non-factor?

I do this from time to time when I have a keyword that I'd like my blog homepage to show up for and not just an individual blog post.

Hopefully that makes sense.

The pattern and distribution of your anchor text (text used to link to your site) has been one of the big targets in Google's last few updates.

In the past you would get good ranking by blasting backlinks using your primary keyword.

Now that will get you an "over-optimization" or other penalty.

It is now better to have a wide variety of anchor text used for your backlinks. Such as...

    - Primary Keyword
    - Secondary/Other keyword
    - Naked URL
    - Random text near your kewords such as "dog training is very affordable so do research". Anchor text is "very affordable" but appears right next to your keywords "dog training".

The new backlink SEO is all about anchor text diversity.

Having fewer keyword indicators in the backlink profile means that "on page" SEO has become even more important. This is where Google is going to get most of the information about your site contents and keywords: by looking at the content of your site, not from seeing "dog training" in 80% of the backlink anchor text.

I beloieve that inter-linking will have some benefit. Link the post you do today to previoues related posts. As mentioned above you do not want to over due this but a few links to your other posts/pages will help some. Look at all the interlinking on a Wikipedia page.

I think you should take it easy as to not over optimize too much (From an anchor text perspective) but yeah, internal linking is definitely going to be helpful so try to do a lot of that.

Well, linking back to your own blog is fine. But i guess it should be like this. Rather than linking to your home page it would be good If you link another related article which is in your blog.

Its all about making your blog visitors involved in reading something more and interesting about a particular thing through interlinking and doing it will not effect you badly at all. You can also drive them to something more useful than your blog by addressing others blog post explaining same thing but more clearly.
Just change your keywords and to make visitors engaged. Blogging is all about engagement.

yeah, keep it natural. You can change it up for internal or external backlinks. Google is smart enough to know the meaning for those phrases you use.
