Hello Experts,

We had our website page rank 3 when we had no certificate. Since, we have implemented a certificate to our website, it says 0 page rank. Should I remove the certificate?

Thanks,
Denor

By certificate, do you mean a simple image like "Certified SSL encryption" or ?

Putting up a cert made me feel even less secure. Now would be hackers think I have something worth hiding.

    So I took it down.

It's because Google sees them as two different sets of URLs (URL canonicalization). So, http is different from https.

You may regain your PR by performing a 301 redirect, but who knows when Google will update PR again.

Many website owners have applied the SSL certificate after the update and complained about the drop in SERPs and Traffic.

I suggest to wait for some time and test the results if its not regaining the amount of visitors or PR it was getting earlier then Remove it and again test. If it regains the PR then make your best choice. IF you change something it really need time to show results. You don't know what Google have in store for you.

You need to redirect the non certificate URL's (http:// and http://www) to the certificate version, use 301 redirect if you did not do it yet.

LOL... I am really curious why people are asking something like this... It's just for secure and is used by websites that use any currency (like PayPal, sites that offer PayPal payments, etc.)... There is no reason to do it for a simple blog..........

  • what's the problem in do-follow links, you are linking to reputable sources for backup source of your content & google will loves this because that you are linking to authority websites. Don't worry about link juice but you can do minimize the little nos of external inks if you think without this article can publish.
