It all depends on competition and nature of keyword.

In most cases it will be hard to rank a one page site.

Even if you manage to rank it the rankings are often unstable.

There are always exceptions to the rule though, for example one of my contacts ranked a one page site using a domain with very diverse spam that he 301 redirected and hundreds of SAPE links pointing at the main domain / money site. This resulted in very stable rankings that lasted for 2-4 weeks (by that time it got penalized and the redirect and SAPE links had to be moved to a new domain). That was for a pretty competitive search term that made him $15k+/month.

If you ask me, "Can you guarantee stable rankings for a one page affiliate site with your service?" Then the answer is No.

But maybe it can be done when you only have natural links from authority sites in your niche.

Google always looks at the complete picture and to get away with unnatural (paid) linking there are higher requirements needed for the website and imo especially when it concerns affiliate sites. Non affiliate sites that are just a few pages large seem to do much better with the same type of link building.

Yes, you can in a VERY low competition niche and with the right kind of backlinks. But why do that?

A 5 page website with a privacy policy, disclosure page, contact page is not that much harder to build and it will VASTLY improve your chances of ranking.

But overall, you need to change your mentality about ranking. What is your end goal?

*Do you want people to stay on our site?
*Are you giving them good information that can actually help them?
*Are you willing to show your face on this site?
    *Are you building a business?

Or is building one page the pinnacle for you?

It is possible in one case, if there is no competition for the niche/keywords you chosen.

if you select a long tail exact match phrase from you niche and can supply relevant information on it , keeping in mind Cal to action then for sure you can rank anything.

It is possible if the Keyword competition is too low.
But it is better to add some extra pages/posts or you can add a blog section in your site and publish some post related to your site niche/topic.

If your eventual goal is to rank something more involved than a one page site, you'd get a better understanding of how to do so by trying to rank something more involved than a one page site. Not to mention, you'll just be making your task more difficult your way.

I don't understand why you would want to rank just one page.

Use one pages for ....viral traffic and funnel it down into something useful. Works much better than trying to rank one single page and get a couple searches.
