Page Rank of 3 in just 6 weeks!

On the 19th of May 2009 I set up a new site to start promoting my new Offline Marketing business and today noticed I have been allocated a Google rank of PR3 which is about 6 weeks.

I have also noticed with this PR Rank that many of my posts have jumped a lot of positions for our keywords.

We have been using the same techniques for our clients and they are getting similar results. The offline marketing niche is certainly hot as we are getting a lot of inquiries.

We are doing this just by adding regular targeted posts and keywords then social bookmarking each post.

We are doing mainly Inbound Marketing rather than list building (giving away content rather than getting people to sign up for it but then capturing names through alternative methods)

Are you seeing similar results and what techniques are you using?

Quentin

Am I wrong, or is 'speed' irrelevant when it comes to PageRank? One big link obtained within a week is as valuable as the same link 6 weeks from now.

Personally, I just look at traffic sources and then rankings for seo, since a very low PR rating (0 or 1) can rank better than a high PR site if it is targeting the keyword you want to target.

That is, a low PR site targeting keyword X will rank better than a high PR site that has keyword X on it, but is not optimized for that keyword.

Otherwise, the high PR sites would appear at the top of the listings for every search, which would be ridiculous.

Of course, getting a PR 3 so fast is good. Nice job Quentin. Although when I fired up my old IE6 to check your site, it came back with errors then crashed the browser. I'll blame Microsoft.

I started my blog on the same date (19th of May or so) and hit PageRank 4 on June 23th, when Google updated visible PR. I did this with blog commenting and social bookmarking, something I was doing anyway, so the PR jump happened by accident for me

Note that even if the new blog is only a month and couple of weeks old, there's some old content that I imported from my old blogspot blogs, one from late 2005 and another started earlier this year before moving to WordPress, both PageRank 0. I did html/javascript redirect (not .htaccess 301) from the old blogs, to get the search engine traffic I had to my new blog for the old posts. That old content might or might not have impacted getting the PR4 so fast.

    Fast PageRank != Traffic

But as Kindsvater also pointed out, it's more important to target the correct keywords than shoot for high ranking (at start), so having PR4 doesn't mean anything unless it's bringing traffic and I haven't seen much benefit (yet) from the PR. I'm getting traffic from the posts and articles that are among the 1-9 results in Google, PR 0 or not.

That doesn't mean it doesn't make me feel good that I hit that rank, as I have not had even PR1 before

In case interested, read the whole story from my blog (signature link) and look for "PageRank" in the recommended section on top right or do a search if it's no longer there..

It is great to have a site with a Google page rank of 3 within 6 weeks of setting it up but keep in mind when you get that page rank will depend on when Google readjusts all its page ranks.

Put another way someone could build a site that ends up getting a page rank of 4 or 5...3 months after they set up the site and start getting links...simply because that's when Google adjusts its page rank.

There does seem to be a tendency these days for Google to pay more attention to sites that have a lot of targeted content pages inside the site with links leading to those pages from other quality sites (your social bookmarking posts could do that).

Put simply those who are building real sites with a lot of real high quality targeted content are beginning to get rewarded more and more by Google.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

  • PR 6 in 6 weeks is possible. I had a similar case. (I don´t remember if it was exactly 6 weeks, but it was fast). However I lost one point since the last update and now have PR2.

Relevance can beat high PR. But usually on the profitable keywords you are not the only one who is relevant. To beat the others you need high PR. But even with building high PR fast there still is the sandbox. You may have PR3 but you aren´t on the first page after 6 weeks. Quick ranking works only for keywords only a few people show interest in and where you can on the first page only by being relevant.
