Would you guys say it is common to get around 40,000 hits a day continuously only from search engine traffic ? Is this very common or is it very rare ? I am talking search engine traffic only ... no social media .

Also , in case it is a yes ... how long would it take to reach such a goal on a 2 year old domain site with a strong SEO campaign ? in one year ? would that be feasible with super hard work ? I first wanna know if 40,000 hits from search engines daily is a common thing for websites or blogs to get .

Yes, it's possible. But totally depends on the website's services or products you will provide your visitors. If the products are really very useful and having lost then surely, can generate such amount of traffic. We have proven one project. That was very small website but yes traffic was approx 30k per day.

It is not easy to get 40K visitors per day. You need to work very hard and it can take 1 - 2 years to achieve this target. Most important thing is that you should have a minimum bounce rate to increase your traffic through SEO.

In 10 Years of experience in this field I have seen some case history about websites doing an incredible amount of visits.

I have had a client that 3 years ago setup a blog and only writing he get 2,000 000 visits per month. I investigate a lot to understand how, and the factor I discovered are those:

    1) He is on "gossip" keywords, most of his keywords are trending keywords that appear for a while and then disappear
    2) He has bunch of writer that share a lot on facebook, and this probably helped the growing
    3) All the people that write in the blog are considered good writer, and they have an "internet profile" that matter, because they have been written for long
    4) He publish minimum 4 articles per day, with trending news.

No Adsense or any type of advertising.

At the end the website is not earning any money, just some sponsor.

Said that, I have seen other interesting case history, like a client reaching 1000 per day in 3 month just writing steady 1 article a day, not best content, not good quality, nothing special, no SEO, nothing, like Google decide to make her the best blog in the market for that.

We study a lot and try to replicate for 1 year, with 3 different blogs in 3 different topics, but nothing, no results. I decide to ask her to write on another blog, just to see if it is the way that she write, but nothing.

So what I think is that sometimes, some blog enter in a different behaviour than usual, for unknown reasons.

I dont agree with you there. There is structure here on the internet and that is why i am in the field and love it.

If thats how the internet ran i would think most of us wouldn't be in this and would be pursuing other things in life.

so summary "Luck" also play a factor?
Many of us keep mention daily update new contents,
Seo , Link buikding , Keywords,

      still daily traffic...zzz

some site I see so long never update content yet ranking quite ok..daily visits also not bad..

      hmmm...really a mystery sometimes..

Of course there are website that get 40,000 hits a day from search engines. Some
even get into the millions. But that's where the math is off for the average joe.

Nobody here can tell you how to get 40,000 hits a day from search engines. Because
the math is not there. To get 40,000 hits a day, you would need to probably get at least
50% of the search traffic. (The percent is probably even lower). That would mean
at least 80,000 people would be searching for YOU. That's 24 million searches
each month. If your keywords are optimized for THAT, then you are not the average joe
on the WF. The WF itself probably does not even garner a fraction of that kind
      of search engine traffic.

I would imagine that a site like wikipedia gets way more than 40,000
a day from search engines. They sure get me several times a day.

It's not about seeking out the wiki itself. It's about searching for something, clicking the first result and then being targeted with something that "sort of matched."

I have a couple sites in "Impossible to monetize" niches that do really well with just loosely related CPA offers for instance. Depending on the day I earn between $.25-$.80 a click, and of course there are some crazy $1.50+ per click days.

I would use Adsense except... well... you know... Google.

Ah. I see. That makes a lot of sense. I am currently bleeding potential value i can provide my visitors.

              Why not adsense though?

because the ads shown are often irrelevant to the visitor?

The exact reason I dumped Adsense. They can keep their local septic tank cleaning ads.

There's plenty of companies with less then 40k visitors a month (let alone a day) making millions of dollar a year.

40k/day traffic is not easy. The niche needs to be really less competitive and you require some ground breaking SEO work that needs to be done. Would say around 1.5 years.

With 750 posts on my friend's blog, he gets around 1K daily visitors combined from google(gives 600 visitors), social networks and comeback users(bookmarks etc). Some posts are very old so they not make sense now and bring very less/negligible traffic.
I think he needs 5000 posts for 10K daily visitors.

Its not about google ranking. Ranking of old posts is still good but people search for those terms less now because the trend has shifted.
Foe e.g how many people would search for "best 3.5 inch floppy disks" now

Build a large website in the right niche (that would be a niche with a lot of traffic) that generates a lot of natural backlinks and 40K a day isn't a big number.

Consider the celebrity type SERPs, news SERPs etc... there's a lot of niches with a LOT of traffic, if you can create a site users love and link to there's a lot of traffic available.

Not easy though, I have a UK politics site that during the last UK general election was generating tens of thousands of visitors a day and on election day so many visitors the server broke! Lost part of the log files for the day, but estimate over 1/4 million visitors. I ignored the site after the election and it's a trickle of traffic today: to do well in the politics niche you must make regular updates otherwise you loose your readership.

What is your obsession with the number 40,000?

Do you have any idea how a search engine works?

You're asking if it's possible to get 40,000 people to your website every day from a search engine because 40,000 people are searching for something and your website is coming up and they are clicking on it.

It doesn't "make" traffic you know ahahah. Those are all people searching for something. It could be 10 people a day it could be 100,000 a day it depends on what they are searching for.

And you want to know if it's "common or rare?" hahahah

Your question is kind of ridiculous.

It's certainly not common. It's doable with enough pages but forget about the traffic being targeted. If you Google "extreme tracker" and then type random keywords after it you will find sites that have the tracker installed and occasionally you will come across sites getting tens of thousands of organic visitors a day. Take a note of the search phrases. CPM is the way to monetize this traffic. I would post an example but it can take a few hours to stumble across one.
