Domain Length

How do you balance the ideal domain name length? I frequently hear that two to three words is ideal and shouldn't go above, but if a four word phrase is more catchy and memorable, couldn't that work too?

Upt o 6 characters once word domain is good... Well as long as you have the sweat to promote it doesn't matter... 4-character irrelevant domain is still useless.
  • It's not really about the doamin, it's about how you build back links to your site. If it's a longer domain name that is catchy then no problem. The only benefit of a domain name that matches your specific niche, is really for people looking in SERPS. If they see dogfood.com and specialtreats.com, even if both are selling dog related food, the first may get more visitors because it's instantly recongisable as a dog food site. But there is no seo value to having a domain that matches your niche. It's all about promotion... look at APPLE.COM would you assume that they sold PC's? And yet they rank highly in SEPRS because they have promoted their brand

    • Good point with Apple. So all the time I spent thinking about getting the right domain, it really doesn't matter and I should have spent my time on promoting. Mistake number one and I don't even have the site yet!
