Yahoo Directory to be Discontinued

Its official now.

A listing in Yahoo Directory didn't carried the same weight now like it used to about 5 years ago. Also, $299 for a "non-refundable review" was always a risk.

How many of you had their links on Yahoo Directory? Any horrible rejection stories?

More people will migrate to DMOZ listing now it seems.

5 years, you mean 10 years?
A fool and his money are soon parted.

I got a free submission link in 1997. I still have that site,
and the link is still there. Never paid a dime.

Nobody used the directory. I mean who in their right mind
would ever use it, let alone even know it exists anymore.
Not in 2014, that's for dang sure.

Never paid for it though most of my sites have been listed there since before they started charging for the listings.

Even though they are "closing" it, the announcement did say"Advertisers will be upgraded to a new service; more details to be communicated directly." .... I assume they mean that the "advertisers" are those who paid for a listing??
There were no hints as to what this new product was

I think by Advertisers they are referring to all previous listings (be it free or paid) - since having a listing in a directory means you are advertising it.

Good, hopefully that takes care of all of the crappy Ydir clones out there that fill the web with garbage and send bad links to websites.

Yes, being human edited and paid directory the subscribers for this directories are getting reduced. Thanks to free indexing by Google more and more people are inclined towards it. This makes directory listing going to hayway in Yahoo.

A number of web properties we track have their listings in Yahoo Directory as per our backlink analysis tool.
