Hey everyone!

I want to know which platform is better for SEO prospective Blogspot or Wordpress?

  • Blogspot = PR8
    Wordpress = PR9

However I don't think that simply choosing one over the other for SEO ranking ability is going to help. I would believe the same standards would apply if you are looking to rank your content (I could be wrong).

  • Are you sure you just want to look at it from the SEO perspective?

I mean the SEO-friendliness of the platform is just a tiny factor compared to other things you will have to do to rank your site well.

First of all, do you want a hosted or self-hosted solution? Blogger only offers a hosted version, so it may not be the safest on the long run. I certainly wouldn't go with a hosted solution for my main site. It could fine however for additional supporting sites.

What features do you need? What are your plans for the future? What features WILL you need? Features are IMO more important than just the ranking factor, especially when there is just a tiny difference between them.

I could go on with the list...

  • Definetly wordpress.... If you want to use the resources to its full... or if you are new to blogging thenyou should try blogspot or tumblr first..

    Thanks
please Thank me if this helps you
  • Both are good blogging platforms. But WordPress has a lot more options and customization abilities.

    WordPress wins here!

    I hope this helps!

I wish you the best of the best!

    Cheers!
  • Depends if you are talking about Wordpress.com (where they host your site and can terminate it anytime) or whether you are referring to WordPress on your own website hosting and domain.

    • Exactly! Your best bet is to use WordPress self-hosted, your own domain name on a web hosting account. This is the way to go buddy.
  • Personally I recommend WordPress as there are many good SEO plugins that beginners can use to optimize most of the website easily.
  • In my opinion, blogspot receives pretty quick ranking and authority from Google (for obvious reasons) while it takes time and hardwork to build wordpress sites.

The only disadvantage of using blogspot is that it lacks many features that are present in wordpress. No plugins, editing lots of theme codes, e.t.c

Overall, your site ranking will depend on the amount of quality content on your site, sites linking in, social media engagement, design and usability, speed, and many more factors irrespective of whether it was created with Blogspot or Wordpress.

Just do the right things and you will see high rankings pretty fast.

In everything you do, just make sure you always go through the boring Google webmaster guidelines. It will serve as a guide to creating sites that rank well on Google.
  • without a doubt wordpress is great but if you to start blogger is the best place. As blogger is a Google product, its content easily get appear in google search even-thought you don't know much about SEO. Bottom line start with blogger then move to wordpress.
  • my suggestion to choose Wp
  • WordPress is best no doubt.
  • My 1st choice is Word press and 2nd is Blogger. Both are very important SEO based sites..
  • Hi,

Both platforms have good features. But word press will take 1st position.

    • I have a shared hosting with Hostgator and i have a wordpress blog, but it is damn slow and sometimes the wordpress update can make everything worse. I am switching back to blogger for creating blogs , more secure and easy to use.
  • Hey everyone thanks for your valuable opinions

  • Hey Mike Miller

First , I will start my website with a hosted blog then will move to a self hosted blog.I am going to make a website regarding English grammar that includes some articles, grammar structures and some videos.I want to make a website from which I can easily do the above-mentioned stuff.I will do on-page and white hat SEO for my site and later will use Google Adwords. So, that's my plan if somebody wants to add something in my plan I would appreciate that.

  • I personally use wordpress since I can make many customization, work with seo plugins, install fast theme like genesis framework.. however some people will think otherwise
  • If you wish to run customized blog then WordPress is more recommended than Blogspot. Though both have customization option but WordPress has more options for customization.
  • WordPress because of more power, control and plugins.

  • I presume that you are examining free platforms to start your blog. Let me give you a quick rundown on the pros and cos of both:

    Pros of Blogspot:
    - Very easy to use and is owned by Google, helpful if you already have a GMail account which most people have.
    - You can get tons of templates, free and paid, for a Blogspot blog
    - Favored by Google more than WordPress obviously because it owns Blogger.

    Cons:
    - Storage is less if you intend to have a lot of images.
    - Templates are not as attractive as WordPress themes.
    - Images may get resized and you may have an issue sometimes while uploading them.

    Pros of WordPress:
    - You can easily upgrade from WordPress to WordPress which is used by most bloggers.
    - Beautiful themes, free as well as paid.
    - You can get thousands of plugins, most of them free for any kind of additional functionality that you want.

    Cons of WordPress:
    - While WordPress is free it may not be as easy to rank it as a Blogger blog.
    - If you want more control over your blog you will have to use WordPress and need to invest in a domain and hosting.

If you're starting off you can choose to begin with Blogger(Blogspot) and learn the ropes and switch to WordPress later.

  • Wordpress is a bloated piece of crap that needs a zillion plugins.
    It's a lousy CMS.

It's made every joe blow living in his mom's basement a webmaster.

Blogspot, hands down, is a better CMS. It is designed exactly the way google
wants it. No plugins. Nothing. Comes SEO'd right out of the box.

Even better would be to just create your own website. Takes minutes of learning
time. AND....you actually learn the ins and outs of web design, coding, server
settings, etc. over time. Making you an actual webmaster. Makes you
want to learn more, keep up on latest trends, facts, figures.....so you don't
post an idiotic comment about the PR of blogspot.com and wordpress.com.
That, my friends, is case in point about how joe blow with WP thinks he's
    now the beastmaster.

    If people only knew.

    Paul
  • My most profitable, fastest, w3c complaint sites are all wordpress. Just putting that out there....

    (Not wordpress.com though of course)
(Fastest is sub-400ms for total load, occasionally below 300ms)

  • Best plat form is blogspot and wordpress , I am using both websites,
  • I find google indexes blogger posts faster - not surprising since they own it. But Wordpress does have better tools and more customization. I have blogs on both.

Use WMT Fetch as Google on the exact page/post URL or sitemap.xml URL, they'll be indexed as fast as you can click the WMT button. Works for anything that has a URL.
  • WordPress is much much better than blogspot and its a biggest platform now a day with a lot of standard rules....
  • WordPress. There is a lot you can do.
  • I think both platforms are the same depending on how you diligently to improve its quality seo. Blogspot is free, while wordpress is paid but full control is in your hands
  • if you try to rank for google, use blogger; if you try to rank for bing/yahoo, wordpress
  • Both Wordpress and blogspot are blogging platforms and good but wordpress has better tools and more customization.
  • Wordpress.com is fantastic if you posting frequently unique content, you will see organic traffic within a week, max twoo weeks. Blog.com is also very good, both platforms ranks pretty fast on LT phrases without single backlink, just content. But boosted with backlinks you will get a lot more traffic from them, those 2 platforms are perfect for parasite websites purposes, I am doing it all the time and they bringing me toons of traffic in many different niches.
  • You would figure that since blogspot is ran by google it would get more love from the search engines... but that doesn't seem to be the case
  • I agree with others are saying, I like wordpress more, but I believe your site gets indexed much quicker on blogspot, as that's a google property.

If you go with WP, you should setup your own domain that allows you much more freedom to do what you want.
  • I think both are the very effective sites for bog posting.

    • I have been using both with success. It really comes down to how you work with the platforms.

If you want to be seen as an authority i would go after Wordpress where you have fully control of everything you do, without thinking of Google shutting you down.

Blogger is good for creating some great backlinks to your main site.

If you have a great WP site you can use it as an asset you can sell later on Flippa for 1k or more per site.

Hope it helps. Have a nice day
  • For SEO purpose both WordPress and blogspot platform are best, if you are promoting informative and valuable content. Google present both blogs in ranking according to the content value.
  • If I have to make a choice between two, I would definitely choose WordPress over Blogspot because of the customization and several other features it offers to its users.
  • I am a wordpress fan but I am not focussing on SEO so wouldn't know the difference. Interesting to see the debate here.

Some people are really passionate about their and preference
  • As my experience shows wordpress is a fantastic platform, once you provide quality content you wil lget a lot of followers and the organic traffic will appears after week or sooner. Wordpress is fantastic for parasite purposes, I am using many wordpress blogs, not only, there are a lot of similiar platforms like them to use as a parasite websites. They ranks pretty easily and quite fast. If you are lookign for more sites like this check out one of my footer links , there is a page about parasite platforms, it will be increased very soon, I found about 100 sites like this I published already.
  • I had used both but I like blogger because it's very easy and help to generate more traffic globally very fast.
