Yes I hear the argument. But my experience is that most (ok Warrior Forumites, what is the size of your list?) produce little in the way of sales. I think that's because most lists are just lists....

Well it's my opinion based on 6 years in IM. I've built lists, every way you can imagine......but the conversion is lousy. 10,000 on your list then no problem. How many people have a real list...

I'm not convinced outside those people with tens of thousands of people on their lists.
Most IM people have less than 500 people on a list, so given a conversion of 1% this means sales of 5 units...

I've got Long Tail Pro and its really good. I find it easier to use and faster than Market Samurai. I seem to remember that its pretty cheap too.

I don't think they are necessarily different business models. It's easily possible to create a product and then sell to your own list - that way you get all the money and not just an affiliate cut....
