Sitemaps are just for letting google crawl all your pages easier for indexing them.

Don't think it does much in terms of ranking. Dont think it ever has.

I tried it this morning with quotes and without quotes and the page didn't show up both times.

It started showing up about 3-4 hours after I first noticed it was not indexed (supposedly)

I typed

site:"myname.com" into google and page wasn't there

it's showing up now though so not sure what happened.

it automaticially re-directs me to mysitename.com

my website shows up as this - mywebsite.com

So the WWW. gets taken out of my domain name which I'm not worried about
