In my opinion an exact match long tail key phrase domain is invaluable. Get one whenever possible in your niche. It will pay dividends later.

I would only manually submit sites to directories. I would try to find some related ones so that you can possibly get some traffic as well.

It is an article / advertising forum. It is 100%...

pretty well if you are link building you are spamming in some way in my opinion. The trick is to try and contribute to where you are building the link without blatantly spamming and not contributing...
