Look into running your wordpress site on NGINX backend w/ Varnish Cache front end, APC and using W3 Cache plugin. Of course you will need to be familiar with Linux to do this. Nginx runs wordspress...

Not sure about your main question. But here's a tip about expired domains..Check in the archive for other pages of the site. Check those pages for backlinks, recreate those pages or 301 redirect to...
