It's better to go with a double opt-in like aweber. The reason being it's harder for people to claim they are being spammed if they confirm that they opted in to begin with.

Some viewers try viewing the root directory when you have anything setup in sub-directories, or on sub-domains. If there's nothing there, you're losing traffic.

I find that making a post every 3 hours up to 5 times a days is good. Make sure they get your fans to interact...like, share, tag friends etc.. Fans don't tend to mind as long as the posts are good.
