For me, article writing is still a good idea for newbies if they are taking the "link bait" route as opposed to relying on the engines to crawl random blog depositories.....

I was pretty excited when this was first released too! Its still a work in progress, look for google to back this product up VERY soon with some new additions to call tracking for ROI purposes....

Manual backlinking may be a pain, but if done right and not in a way that is perceived as spam, it will be permanent on meaningful.. Automated services are usually no good.

Most of the time when using a keyword, a blog owner won't approve your comment, but if you don't anchor the text correctly, its a very lame backlink that may not get approved anyway! Best case...

Although I use a keyword in my name, I'm not so sure its effective, as I do it based almost exclusively on habit! The name/anchor text point to something that is not your site.
