Email the Webmaster link is probably to blame. Your competition may have bought links on the page for a nominal amount. Can't be sure though.

Agreed but another cure in this case is probably time. Google most likely found some of the backlinks and sandboxed you. Just make sure you keep building the links so it looks natural to Google.
