yes try to avoid spammy areas what worked for me is focus on links from PR sites with low link counts...we build 3 layers of links on web 2.0's those properties now have up to 50 PA and did very...

I also like sick submitter..I outsource a lot of what is mentioned above..scrapebox is also at a good price point compared to what some other things cost...we have been building our own SEO program...

Anytime you do print the target market needs to see the message over and over just 1 newspaper ad won't get you much. I do like industry specific trade journals better then traditional papers.
