are you uploading using the web upload or an ftp program, the web upload can sometimes time out on larger files. as far as i know there isn't a limit on individual file sizes on hostgator

if it's just html you can just upload it to the folder you want it in via ftp (on hostgator) and then browse to that folder using your browser. if it's an actual wordpress theme you'll have to upload...
