I think Google is pushing webmasters to use PPC so they are making lot of changes to the algorithm, this ranking drop might be due to Google Panda and Penguin update.

Few years back people use to say that directory submissions is best way, now its not. Meta description is very important for ranking now they are saying its only for user purpose and not for search...
