Thats the thrill of SEO mate, i have a team of staff working directly for me through work i do on SEO, and yes i worry everyday that if my ranks drop i would be ruined, but that just makes me work...

if your on page seo is perfect then off page can definitely not affect your rankings detrimentally, think about how clever google is, why in gods name would it give people the opportunity to damage...
