Agreed on the color - and I don't think the gradient in the navigation works. The rest of the site is using solid colors, the gradient is too contrasted and should atleast be minimized a bit.

Yeah, site looks fine. Why would you take it from WordPress back to basic HTML?

Your time would probably be better spent doing on page SEO, adding content, building links, etc.

Yep - looks like it's custom coded. If not custom, it's integrated into the theme in a custom manner. You can tell by looking at the code and seeing that all of the CSS is inside of the themes own...
