I can't find a reference to it now but I recently read a report by Google that determined the two biggest factors for design were:

1) Simplicity
2) A site that is similar in design to what others...

To a degree I agree with this. As long as your design is good and you present the options you want to present to visitors - why obsess about bounce?

When I surf I bounce quick. I don't sit...
