It depends where they're from.

I'd FAR rather have 20 context-relevant, authority-site backlinks than 200,000 PR-0 article directory backlinks. No comparison at all. I'd even rather have 5...

What matters in the long run is to publish your articles on your own site first and have them indexed there...
