I found the image slider more annoying than helpful or informative. It changes too quickly with the result that the average viasitor can't begin to digest what is on each image before it changes....

I agree with you, in this case you don't need the attention on the logo.
Just my opinion, but I don't think I'd use the exact Twitter logo as your own logo.
Do something elegant but creative...

I like the overall site however I would try and make the logo and heading a little bigger they get lost in the nearby font for me.
