If you feel that you need to interlink, make sure that there is no loop.

A to B, B to C, C to D. If D links to A, you have a loop....

I own a number of directories. Most run on phpLD and a couple run on eSyndiCat. Both scripts work great. PhpLD has good support and it is a great way to get going quickly.
