Links? Not positive, it was around 20,000 successful, no wait, 40,000.

Note: Yahoo didn't show anywhere close to that amount :) but...

I had a site last year get a 30 day penalty. It came back, but sluggish. After a reconsideration request, it came back stronger than ever. (top 5).

Ditch the low-quality backlink rat-race and develop your own strategy to consistently gain high quality links. It takes more time to learn, but the benefits are long-term and much more potent.

Backlinking isn't just about quantity. It's more about quality.
Did you weigh the relevance of the backlinks?
