Most of the advice I've seen says that one-day promos are a waste for most. One two-day and one three-day promo per 90 days seems to be the rule of thumb.
That said, you need to find what works...

My advice is to interview your existing audience. Put a survey on your site and a big ole notice encouraging your audience to tell you the best medium to deliver your content to them with.
