I would switch to Aweber or any autoresponder other than mailchimp before anything else. Affiliate marketing is against their rules (http://mailchimp.com/legal/terms/), Part 1, 11 F.

Aweber personalization - this is what's working for us---

We added an optional custom field:

{!custom_industry} to our optin form. Based on our tracking, we're getting sales conversions we've never had specific to this message.
