You can also just submit just that page via Search Console and you can also link to it from Google+, which causes URLs to get indexed almost immediately.

I've also faced this same issues. Don't worry. It will take more time to index your new page. Once the new pages are crawled, definitely all your old page backlinks will be transferred to a new page....

I recommend Yoast's Wordpress SEO. There's an option where you set attachment URLs to redirect to parent post URLs. You can also set tags and other supplementary page types...
